IDF accuses Syrian recon officer of aiding Hezbollah on northern border – Diverse Bulletin

The Israel Defense Forces on Thursday said it has exposed a Syrian military officer who works in close contact with the Hezbollah terror group in the Golan Heights, on the northern border.

In a Twitter post, Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee said that Naqib Bashar al-Hussein, the commanding officer of the Syrian Arab Army 90th Brigade’s reconnaissance company, “serves as the main liaison between Hezbollah’s southern headquarters and the 1st Division of the Syrian [Arab] Army.”

Adraee shared a photo of al-Hussein in which he can be seen on the border with a camera alongside leading Hezbollah commander Jawad Hashem, apparently observing Israeli troops and collecting information for the terror group.

“As part of his job, Naqib Bashar accompanies various Hezbollah members and even coordinates the handling and repair of observation posts belonging to Hezbollah and sometimes even Iran,” Adraee said.

Jawad Hashem’s father, known as Hajj Hashem, is officially tasked with leading Hezbollah’s efforts along the Syrian-Israeli border, known as the Golan File.

The IDF spokesperson also charged that al-Hussein operated inside a demilitarized zone near the border, where the Syrian military is not allowed to operate under the 1974 ceasefire agreement reached between Jerusalem and Damascus after the previous year’s Yom Kippur War.

Adraee’s post also stated biographical information about al-Hussein, including the town where he lives.

Warning al-Hussein, the Syrian military and Hezbollah, Adraee said that “IDF forces are monitoring the developments on the other side of the border and anyone who tries to harm the security of Israel and its citizens.”

“The Syrian regime is responsible for all activities carried out from its territory against the State of Israel,” he added.

The IDF has repeatedly accused Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s military of actively assisting Hezbollah and warned it, both through flyers dropped along the border and through overt, public appeals, including naming the Syrian and Hezbollah officials involved.

Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria over the years and against Syrian military installations in cases where they were being used to attack Israel or Israeli forces.

Israel fears Iranian entrenchment on its northern frontier, and has repeatedly struck Iran-linked facilities and weapons convoys destined for Hezbollah.

The Golan Heights, a strategic plateau, was captured by Israel from Syria during the 1967 Six Day War.
