Afghanistan cricket, Klusener part ways

Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener has left his role as head coach of Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board says the departure was the result of a mutual agreement after it decided not to extend the contract of Klusener, who was appointed in September 2019 and guided the team to two wins from their five matches in the recent T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan won one out of three Tests and three of six one-day internationals under Klusener.

A statement read: “Afghanistan Cricket Board and the national cricket team have had the coaching services of Lance Klusener for more than two years and will take away some exciting memories from his tenure.

“ACB thank him, appreciate his efforts with the national team and wish him all the very best in his coaching career ahead.”

The Afghanistan board says it has begun the search for a replacement.
